LAHORE: A high-level meeting chaired by Secretary Housing Punjab Noor-ul-Amin Mengal and attended by Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Asim Javed reviewed water quality testing mechanisms and food safety measures across Punjab. The meeting brought together senior technical experts to discuss coordinated steps for improving access to safe drinking water and ensuring food hygiene.
It was decided that the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will have its filtration plants tested under the supervision of the Punjab Food Authority, while the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority (PSPA) will receive technical support to improve the quality of water produced at its facilities.
Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal highlighted that, on the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, major clean drinking water initiatives are being implemented across the province to ensure the public’s access to safe and healthy water. He stressed that effective food safety measures not only protect public health but also reduce the burden on hospitals. “Those who jeopardize the health of children must not be shown any leniency,” he said.
Mengal added that along with enforcement, it is equally important to guide food business operators to ensure the availability of safe, high-quality food. He also termed the Chief Minister’s School Nutrition Program a transformative initiative that will positively impact the health and well-being of future generations.
DG Punjab Food Authority Asim Javed stated that water filtration plants across Punjab will be tested using a modern verification mechanism. Praising Noor-ul-Amin Mengal’s role in establishing Punjab’s food safety framework, he remarked: “The adulteration mafia is like a cancer—its eradication is absolutely essential.”
He added that the Punjab Food Authority is continuously working to improve the quality of essential items—including milk, water, ghee, pulses and vegetables—to bring them up to international standards
