Karachi, Pakistan — Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in its digital connectivity network with the landing of the global submarine cable SE-ME-WE 6 at Hawksbay Beach in Karachi.
The cable landing ceremony was attended by Federal Secretary for Information Technology, Zarar Ahmad Khan, who called the development a “historic milestone” for Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
The 21,700-kilometer-long SE-ME-WE 6 system starts in Singapore and travels through key regions across the Middle East and Europe before terminating in France, with Karachi serving as a crucial landing point.
Officials from Transworld confirmed that installation work is moving swiftly and that the system will significantly enhance Pakistan’s international bandwidth, data reliability, and network resilience.
With this addition, Pakistan now has nine international submarine cables, three of which have landed in the last year — marking rapid expansion in the country’s digital ecosystem.
The SE-ME-WE 6 cable is expected to boost Pakistan’s global connectivity, improve internet speeds, and support stronger integration into the international digital economy.
