LAHORE: The Government of Punjab’s flagship low-income housing initiative, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Program (ACAG), has been declared the province’s most successful public housing effort to date, according to a spokesperson of the Punjab Housing Department.
Officials report that more than 35,500 families have completed the construction of their homes, while the total number of beneficiary families has reached 117,159 across the province. Additionally, 72,254 houses are currently under rapid construction, backed by over Rs. 142 billion allocated for home development under the program.
The spokesperson emphasized that the initiative—reflecting the vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab—offers interest-free loans for up to nine years, enabling thousands of low-income households to build durable homes. The government aims to support 500,000 more families with interest-free loans over the next five years.
Authorities say the program’s simplified procedures have significantly boosted rural and urban home construction, while also providing a notable stimulus to Punjab’s construction sector and broader economy.
The Housing Department added that citizens can submit applications online through the program’s official portal, a step aimed at ensuring transparency, accessibility, and ease for applicants.
