LAHORE: The Punjab Price Control & Commodities Management Department has intensified its crackdown on profiteering across the province, conducting over 13,300 inspections in various districts. According to the department’s spokesperson, action was taken against more than 1,400 shopkeepers found involved in overcharging, with fines amounting to Rs 1,498,500 imposed.
The spokesperson confirmed that 128 individuals were arrested and 16 FIRs registered as part of the ongoing enforcement drive. The crackdown on sugar profiteers and hoarders is also in full swing, with 1,036 raids carried out. As a result, authorities took action against 174 violators, arrested 24 individuals, and imposed fines totaling Rs 431,500.
Additionally, two warehouses involved in sugar hoarding were sealed, and cases have been registered against their owners.
The spokesperson emphasized that, on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, no leniency will be shown to profiteers or hoarders. Sugar is being sold at government-notified rates in all districts, and no shortages have been reported.
He added that the department is also keeping strict watch on the prices of flour and roti, ensuring no one sells them above fixed rates. Legal action continues against violators to maintain uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the public at official prices.
