Islamabad — Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ruled that no form of divorce — including triple talaq — becomes legally effective until a mandatory 90-day period is fully completed. The judgment reinforces the procedural requirements outlined in family laws governing divorce in the country.
In its decision, the apex court upheld the Sindh High Court’s earlier ruling dated 7 October 2024, confirming that the 90-day reconciliation period is a legal prerequisite, regardless of how the divorce is pronounced.
Legal experts say the judgment provides greater clarity on the process and ensures that reconciliation opportunities are fully explored before a divorce is considered final.
