PESHAWAR: Authorities have begun considering the possibility of imposing Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources said on Saturday. Discussions are underway on whether to retain the current governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, or replace him, with six potential names under review.
According to sources, the list includes three political figures and three retired military officers.
Political names under consideration:
Amir Haider Khan Hoti
Aftab Sherpao
Pervez Khattak
Retired military officers being considered:
Lt Gen (R) Khalid Rabbani (former Corps Commander Peshawar)
Lt Gen (R) Ghiyur Mehmood
Lt Gen (R) Tariq Khan
Sources further said that despite discussions, the current governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, remains the first preference. Any change in the governor’s office may be linked to the possible imposition of Governor’s Rule or a policy decision to apply pressure on the provincial government.
Responding to reports of his removal, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi told journalists in Peshawar that he had no knowledge of any such plan.
“If the media is going to appoint a governor, then Allah Hafiz,” he remarked.
He added that he would accept whatever decision his party makes regarding his position.
