Move aims to ease acute shortages of food and medicine in Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced that it will temporarily open the Torkham and Chaman border crossings to allow United Nations humanitarian aid containers to enter Afghanistan, amid worsening shortages of essential supplies.
Officials said the decision was taken on humanitarian grounds, following reports of severe deficits in food, medicines, and other basic items across Afghanistan. The measure is intended to support the UN’s relief operations and ensure that urgent assistance reaches vulnerable Afghan communities.
The development comes as international aid agencies continue to warn of a deepening humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, where millions remain dependent on external support.
