NEW YORK: The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution calling for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied Palestinian territories, in a strong reaffirmation of global support for a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian question.
The resolution, titled “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine,” received an overwhelming majority with 151 votes in favour, 11 against, and 11 abstentions.
In the text, the General Assembly urged Israel to fully comply with international law, end its illegal occupation, halt all settlement activities, and remove all Israeli settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories.
Addressing the assembly, Pakistan’s representative reiterated Islamabad’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, stating that Pakistan backs the Palestinian people’s legitimate struggle for freedom, sovereignty, peace, and justice.
The vote comes amid heightened international calls for de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the decades-long conflict.
