LAHORE: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) Punjab reported 1,161 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts in the past 24 hours, resulting in seven deaths and 1,320 injuries.
Of the injured, 590 sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospitals, while 730 with minor injuries received treatment at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce hospital burdens.
Analysis of the incidents revealed that motorbikes were involved in 75% of crashes, underscoring the urgent need for strict traffic law enforcement and lane discipline. Victims included 747 drivers, 45 underage drivers, 170 pedestrians, and 410 passengers.
Lahore topped the list with 217 crashes affecting 248 people, followed by Faisalabad with 79 crashes and 85 victims, and Multan with 78 crashes affecting 79 people.
Further demographic details showed 1,062 males and 265 females among the victims. Age-wise, 226 were under 18, 712 between 18 and 40, and 382 over 40 years.
Vehicle types involved included 1,120 motorbikes, 84 auto-rickshaws, 149 cars, 26 vans, 11 buses, 26 trucks, and 103 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
The data highlights the rising road safety challenges in Punjab and emphasizes the need for public awareness, strict enforcement, and better traffic management to prevent future tragedies.
