LAHORE: Director General of the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Pakistan, Nauman Aslam Sheikh, visited the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), emphasizing that the organization plays a crucial role in protecting the hard work of investors and safeguarding their products.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol praised IPO Pakistan as an important national institution, acknowledging its commendable efforts to protect the rights of the business community. He stressed that strong coordination between the IPO and LCCI is vital for the growth and support of Pakistan’s business sector.
The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President SAARC Chamber Mian Anjum Nisar, and Executive Committee Members Amir Ali, Shoban Akhtar, and Firdos Nisar. Discussions focused on enhancing trademark awareness and improving facilitation for local businesses.
DG IPO Nauman Aslam Sheikh shared that the organization is currently offering five major services: trademark, copyright, patent, industrial design, and geographical indication (GI). He revealed that more than 100 Pakistani products have been identified for GI registration, out of which 22 have already been registered. Acknowledging that Pakistan lags behind regional countries in this area, he assured that efforts are underway to accelerate the process.
He reiterated IPO’s commitment to working closely with LCCI to raise awareness among business owners about intellectual property protection.
Saigol noted that the IPO office located in the basement of the Lahore Chamber is a significant convenience for members, enabling regular collaboration on awareness sessions to educate businesses about trademark protection. He also proposed the creation of a joint annual activity calendar to enhance the effectiveness of these programs.
He expressed optimism that the meeting would further strengthen cooperation between IPO Pakistan and LCCI, ultimately supporting business development and contributing to national economic progress.
