LAHORE: The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,242 road traffic crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab in the past 24 hours, resulting in seven fatalities and 1,413 injuries.
According to official data, 570 seriously injured victims were shifted to hospitals, while 843 individuals with minor injuries were treated on-site by Rescue 1122 medical teams — significantly reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.
The report highlights that motorcycles were involved in 77% of all crashes, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, helmet usage, and lane discipline to curb the rising number of incidents.
An analysis of the crashes shows that among the victims were:
819 drivers
38 underage drivers
171 pedestrians
430 passengers
With 252 RTCs, Lahore once again topped the list, affecting 302 people, followed by Faisalabad with 85 crashes and 93 victims, and Multan with 75 crashes and 82 victims.
A total of 1,420 individuals were impacted, including 1,163 males and 257 females. Age-wise, 210 victims were under 18, 809 were between 18 and 40, while 401 were above 40 years old.
The types of vehicles involved included:
1,203 motorcycles
99 auto-rickshaws
146 cars
33 vans
6 passenger buses
17 trucks
117 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts
The data reflects a continuing pattern of high road accident rates in Punjab, with motorcycles and young drivers contributing significantly to the casualty figures.
