Karachi: The widow of renowned Karachi police officer Chaudhry Aslam, Noreen Aslam, has expressed strong outrage over the upcoming Bollywood film “Dhairendra”, accusing the filmmakers of using derogatory dialogue and misrepresenting her late husband. She has indicated that she may pursue legal action.
Speaking to local media, Noreen criticized a line in the film’s trailer where a character claims that “a child born of a devil and a jinn is called Chaudhry Aslam.” She said the dialogue amounts to character assassination of Aslam’s late mother.
“We are Muslims, living in an Islamic country. Such ideas have no place in our culture. Aslam’s mother was a dignified and pious woman,” she said, adding that any attempt to malign the officer’s reputation would be met with legal measures.
Noreen Aslam also accused Indian writers of historically portraying Pakistan negatively in films, while avoiding criticism of Indian intelligence officials. She referenced a past case involving an Indian military officer who, according to her, had admitted to plotting against Chaudhry Aslam.
“Whether people see Aslam as a hero or a villain is their opinion—but he remained loyal to his soil,” she said.
Addressing the portrayal of Karachi gangster Rahman Dakait in the film, Noreen argued that international terrorist organizations such as the TTP posed far greater threats than Dakait ever did. “Aslam confronted far more dangerous terrorists during his career,” she added.
In another interview, Noreen also spoke about her personal life, sharing details of her marriage to Chaudhry Aslam and describing him as a fearless officer who predicted that films would one day be made about his life.
Chaudhry Aslam, a celebrated and controversial figure in Karachi’s police force, was killed in a suicide attack in January 2014. His career was marked by operations against militant and criminal networks across the city.
