ISLAMABAD — Pakistani Senator Faisal Vawda has said that the 14-year sentence awarded to former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed marks only the beginning of what he described as a long and comprehensive process of accountability.
Speaking to media on Thursday, Vawda said the former general still faces cases related to the May 9 incidents, adding that once those cases progress, the political party allegedly involved “will have to face serious consequences.”
He stated that the political group aligned with Faiz Hameed is already undergoing accountability, emphasizing that “a foundation has now been laid — and nothing is above Pakistan.”
Vawda further remarked that the ongoing May 9 trials could result in a minimum of 14 years’ punishment, questioning where the PTI and its founder would stand once verdicts in those cases are announced.
Reflecting on his own past within the party, he said he had repeatedly warned party leadership about the consequences of certain actions, but was removed instead. “I told them these actions would leave no way back,” he noted.
The senator added that a broad-based accountability process has begun and “will not stop now,” asserting that no individual involved in undermining the state would be spared.
He also mentioned that the case of slain journalist Arshad Sharif remains unresolved, claiming that “once Murad Saeed appears, all characters in that case will also come to light.”
