The Supreme Court has ordered a halt to the ongoing trial against lawyer and human rights activist Iman Mazari in the controversial tweets case.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Hashim Kakar heard Mazari’s petition seeking to stop the trial. The court observed that the High Court is expected to hear both sides in detail and issue a decision soon.
The bench noted that since the matter is already pending before the High Court, it is appropriate to suspend the trial until a final decision is reached, ensuring that the fundamental rights of the parties are not affected.
The case stems from certain tweets posted by Iman Mazari, which led to the registration of a criminal case against her. Following the Supreme Court’s interim order, the trial will remain on hold until the High Court delivers its judgment.
Further developments are awaited.
