LAHORE – A “Communication Skills Workshop” held at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) highlighted the critical role of effective communication in delivering high-quality healthcare.
Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC), Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, emphasized that modern medical services cannot succeed without effective counseling and clear communication between physicians and patients. “Medicine is not just scientific knowledge; it requires empathy, respect for patients’ feelings, and efforts to restore their trust,” he said, adding that treating patients with compassion is both a professional and ethical duty.

The workshop, organized by Surgical Unit-1 of LGH, was attended by senior doctors, trainees, and medical students, including MS LGH Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain and Prof. of Surgery Jinnah Hospital Dr. Tauseef Fatima. Through practical examples and simulation exercises, participants learned how to convey complex medical information in simple terms and establish effective contact with patients during critical situations.
Prof. Hussain noted that poor communication often leads to treatment delays and misunderstandings, while participants acknowledged the session as essential for enhancing professional capabilities. Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal pledged that AMC will continue to conduct such international-standard training programs to strengthen patient-centered care across medical institutions.
