Berlin: The German government has announced the immediate termination of its Afghan refugee admission programme, citing security concerns and criminal involvement linked to some Afghan migrants.
According to international media reports, German authorities have decided to halt the programme amid growing concerns over public safety and internal security. German media say that around 640 Afghan refugees have been denied entry into the country under the revised policy.
The German Interior Ministry confirmed that Afghans who were awaiting relocation to Germany will no longer be granted entry, effectively ending their chances of resettlement under the existing framework.
Media reports further note that the Taliban’s hardline policies in Afghanistan have compelled the international community to limit diplomatic engagement with Kabul, contributing to stricter migration and asylum policies across Europe.
Arab media outlets reported that Germany deported 28 Afghan nationals in 2024 and 81 in 2025 following their involvement in criminal activities.
The move marks a significant shift in Germany’s refugee policy and has sparked debate among human rights groups, who warn that vulnerable Afghans may now face heightened risks amid an increasingly restrictive international asylum environment.
