LAHORE: A delegation of the Deans Committee of Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), along with alumni from the UK and the US, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, met Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at Governor House Lahore on Monday.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the latest advancements in medicine, the importance of mental health, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Governor Punjab directed Vice Chancellor Gondal to ensure that Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, affiliated with FJMU, provides the best healthcare facilities to patients.
Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan emphasized that special attention must be given to poor and deserving patients. He also stressed the importance of expanding healthcare services to rural areas of Punjab to ensure access for all. Highlighting the role of research in modern development, the Governor praised universities as centers of innovation and lauded FJMU’s performance under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Gondal.
In response, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal stated that FJMU ranks among the top three medical universities in Pakistan. He informed the Governor about the upcoming annual international conference, scheduled from December 17 to 19, 2025, organized in collaboration with the FJMU alumni organizations FJMCAANA and FJMU-UK. He added that a record 45 workshops have been held leading up to the conference.
The delegation included Prof. Munza Iqbal, Principal Prof. Abdul Hameed, Dean Undergraduate Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Registrar Prof. Muhammad Nadeem, and Prof. Taskin Zehra. The US alumni were represented by Dr. Fawzia Rana and Dr. Amna Buttar, while Dr. Warda Shafi represented the UK alumni body.
