LAHORE: In a landmark initiative aimed at improving road safety, Layyah Police have launched an extensive traffic awareness and enforcement campaign, distributing more than 200 helmets free of cost to promote compliance with traffic laws and reduce road accidents.
The campaign, launched in line with the vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Inspector General of Police Punjab, is being led by District Police Officer (DPO) Layyah Hassan Javed Bhatti.
According to the DPO, Layyah has become the first district in Punjab to distribute such a large number of helmets free of charge to students—both male and female—media representatives, lower-ranking police personnel, and members of the general public. The initiative has been widely welcomed by local residents and is being described as a practical and life-saving measure.
As part of the campaign, police officers are conducting daily awareness seminars in educational institutions across the district. These sessions focus on traffic rules, the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, and the dangers associated with over-speeding and one-wheeling. So far, seminars have been held in 108 educational institutions.
In addition, traffic police personnel are distributing traffic awareness pamphlets at checkpoints on a daily basis. Flex banners displaying updated traffic laws have also been installed at major intersections, cities, and towns to enhance public awareness.
DPO Hassan Javed Bhatti, along with DSPs, SHOs, and other senior officers, has personally visited major highways and intersections to engage with citizens, distribute informational material, and encourage strict adherence to traffic regulations.
Police officials said the awareness drive will continue in the coming months as part of broader efforts to promote a safe, responsible, and law-abiding traffic culture across the district.
