LAHORE: At least 26 people were killed and 1,320 injured in 1,168 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across Punjab’s 37 districts during the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
In a statement, ESD said that 568 seriously injured victims were shifted to hospitals, while 752 people with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce the burden on healthcare facilities.
The data showed that motorcycles were involved in 78 percent of the reported crashes, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, improved lane discipline, and enhanced road safety awareness.
According to the analysis, the victims included 769 drivers, 44 underage drivers, 137 pedestrians, and 440 passengers.
Lahore topped the list with 226 RTCs, affecting 268 people, followed by Faisalabad, where 80 crashes resulted in 103 victims, and Multan, which reported 70 crashes and 77 affected persons.
Overall, 1,346 individuals were involved in the accidents, including 1,099 males and 247 females. Age-wise data revealed that 207 victims were under 18 years, 756 were between 18 and 40 years, while 383 were above 40 years of age.
The breakdown of vehicles involved showed 1,048 motorcycles, 85 auto-rickshaws, 147 cars, 42 vans, 21 passenger buses, 44 trucks, and 140 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Rescue officials reiterated the need for responsible driving behavior, helmet use, and adherence to traffic regulations to curb the rising number of road accidents across the province.
