LAHORE: Medical experts have underscored the pivotal role of advanced research and quality leadership in strengthening Pakistan’s healthcare system while speaking at the “PGMI M-CON 2025” conference held at Lahore General Hospital (LGH).
Renowned medical scientist and pioneer of test-tube baby technology in Pakistan, Sitara-e-Imtiaz Prof. Rashid Latif Khan, said the faculty of the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) has earned global recognition. He emphasized that young doctors must align themselves with international medical advancements to ensure the provision of world-class healthcare services to the public.
Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal, stressed that effective clinical decision-making is impossible without research. He urged doctors to adopt evidence-based research as a core component of their professional training, noting that quality education and internationally recognized research are essential for the country’s brighter future.
The conference was attended by former Health Minister Prof. Javed Akram, Member Board of Management PGMI Dr. Shabana Haider, Prof. Tariq Salahuddin, Prof. Sardar Muhammad Al-Farid Zafar, Prof. Muhammad Nazir, and Executive Director PINS Prof. Asif Bashir as guests of honour. The speakers lauded PGMI’s academic and research contributions and expressed hope that the research papers presented would serve as a guiding force for young doctors.
Participants also highlighted the importance of ethical and research-driven leadership, stating that strong leadership enhances discipline, institutional performance, and patient care, as medical decisions have a direct impact on human lives.
At the conclusion of the conference, which was attended by a large number of medical professionals and students from across Punjab, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal presented commemorative shields to the distinguished guests and reaffirmed PGMI’s commitment to promoting medical education, research, and quality leadership through future academic initiatives.
