LAHORE: At least 11 people were killed and 1,324 others injured in 1,201 road traffic crashes (RTCs) reported across all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
Rescue officials said that out of the total injured, 500 people with serious injuries were shifted to various hospitals, while 824 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue Medical Teams, significantly reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.
The data revealed that motorcycles were involved in the majority of incidents, accounting for 76 percent of the crashes. Authorities stressed that stricter enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline is essential to curb the rising number of road accidents in the province.
According to the analysis, the victims included 800 drivers, 55 underage drivers, 152 pedestrians, and 383 passengers. Lahore reported the highest number of incidents, with 225 RTCs affecting 256 people, followed by Faisalabad with 75 crashes and 82 victims, while Multan ranked third with 73 RTCs and 77 affected persons.
Further details showed that a total of 1,335 victims were involved in road traffic crashes, including 1,101 males and 234 females. Age-wise data indicated that 198 victims were under 18 years of age, 755 were between 18 and 40 years, and 382 were above 40 years.
The report also highlighted that 1,131 motorcycles, 92 auto-rickshaws, 141 cars, 33 vans, 19 passenger buses, 32 trucks, and 116 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts, were involved in the reported accidents.
Emergency officials reiterated the need for public awareness, responsible driving behavior, and strict compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of life and injuries on roads.
