LAHORE — As part of ongoing Christmas celebrations across Punjab Police, a special ceremony was held at the Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore to honour Christian officers and employees, following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, attended the event as chief guest. He cut a Christmas cake alongside Christian officers and staff of the CPO and extended warm Christmas greetings to the Christian community serving in the police force.
On the occasion, the IG Punjab announced a Christmas grant (Eidi) of Rs. 5,000 for each Christian employee, along with the grant of one additional holiday. He said Punjab Police stands united with its Christian colleagues in celebrating their joy and festivities.
Dr. Usman Anwar emphasised that Christians, along with all minority communities, should continue to benefit from the broad employment opportunities available within Punjab Police. He highlighted the role of Punjab Police Mithaq Centers in promoting interfaith harmony and addressing issues faced by Christians and other minority communities.
The IG Punjab also announced monthly performance awards for selected Christian officers serving at Mithaq Centers who demonstrate outstanding professional conduct. He further assured that comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements would be provided to churches, Christian neighbourhoods, and the community during Christmas celebrations.
Dr. Anwar noted that more than 3,900 minority officers and personnel, including Christians, are currently serving in Punjab Police, while over 450 women from minority communities are also an integral part of the force. He added that minority police personnel have made significant sacrifices, including laying down their lives during operations against terrorists and criminal elements.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Christian officers and employees expressed gratitude to IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar for sharing in their Christmas celebrations.
The event was attended by Additional Inspector General of Police Imran Arshad, DIG Headquarters Dr. Muhammad Abid Khan, AIG Admin and Security Dr. Asad Ejaz Malhi, AIG Welfare Nasir Mahmood Bajwa, along with other senior officers and personnel.
