LAHORE: The 21st death anniversary of renowned medical educationist Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hayat Zafar (late)—former President of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and the first Vice Chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS)—will be observed on Saturday, December 27, at his ancestral village Sultan Mehmood, Tehsil Kabirwala.
According to the schedule, a recitation of the Holy Quran for Isal-e-Sawab of the departed soul will begin at 10:00 am at his residence, followed by a collective prayer after Zuhr.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hayat Zafar was a towering figure in Pakistan’s medical and academic circles. He rendered invaluable services to the country’s healthcare and medical education sectors throughout his distinguished career. In addition to serving as PMDC President and founding Vice Chancellor of UHS, he also held several prestigious positions, including President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), Chairman Board of Management, and Principal of Nishtar Medical College.
He was widely respected for his vision, leadership, and lifelong commitment to strengthening medical education and professional standards in Pakistan. His contributions continue to influence generations of doctors and academicians across the country.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hayat Zafar was also the father of Prof. Dr. Sardar Muhammad Al-Fareed Zafar, President of the Society of Gynaecologic Oncology Pakistan.
