Punjab’s Provincial Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique has said the government is further strengthening the capacity of Rescue 1122 to improve emergency response, particularly in view of potential flood risks in 2025.
The minister made the remarks during a special visit to the Rescue Headquarters in Lahore, where Secretary Emergency Services Dr Rizwan Naseer briefed him on operational requirements. The briefing highlighted the need for specialised communication equipment, landing craft for evacuations, boat carriers, additional rescue boats and the use of drones to enhance disaster response capabilities. The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) joined the meeting via video link.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said the capacity-building measures are being undertaken on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with a focus on modernising emergency response systems and addressing emerging climate-related challenges.
“Planning is being carried out keeping in view the challenges posed by the 2025 floods,” the minister said, adding that Rescue 1122 is being equipped with modern tools and technology to ensure faster and more effective response during emergencies.
He said the Punjab government remains committed to providing the best possible emergency services to protect lives and property across the province.
