LAHORE: Punjab Police have finalized a comprehensive security plan to ensure law and order across the province on New Year Night, following directives from Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, who has ordered heightened security, particularly in Lahore.
According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, a total of 23,000-plus police officers and personnel will be deployed across the province on New Year Night. The deployment includes 419 Inspectors, 1,267 Sub-Inspectors, 2,189 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 1,408 Head Constables, and 16,977 Constables and other officials. In Lahore alone, more than 5,000 officers will be assigned to security duties.
All activities across Lahore and other cities will be monitored through CCTV cameras and the Safe City surveillance system. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has instructed police formations to remain on high alert and maintain close surveillance on anti-state and criminal elements.
The Inspector General emphasized zero tolerance for one-wheeling, aerial firing, display of weapons, and hooliganism. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators, particularly those involved in harassing women and citizens, who will be arrested and sent to lockups.
Dr. Usman Anwar has also ordered comprehensive traffic management arrangements to ensure smooth vehicular flow. He directed the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), Elite Force, and Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) to intensify patrolling on major roads and highways.
In addition, police have been instructed to conduct regular search and sweep operations in Lahore and other cities. Authorities will also obtain surety bonds from individuals previously identified for one-wheeling and aerial firing incidents during past celebrations.
The IG Punjab directed the CCPO Lahore, Regional Police Officers (RPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally supervise security arrangements. Meanwhile, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore and District Traffic Officers across Punjab have been ordered to deploy additional personnel for traffic control.
Appealing for public cooperation, Dr. Usman Anwar urged citizens to report incidents of one-wheeling, aerial firing, weapons display, or other suspicious activities by dialing police emergency helpline 15.
