LAHORE: Chairperson of the Child Protection Bureau (CPB) and Member of the Punjab Assembly, Sarah Ahmad, visited the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) in Lahore, where she was received by CEO PSCA Mustansar Feroz.
During the visit, Managing Director PSCA Ahsan Younas briefed the Chairperson on the functioning and performance of various departments, including the Virtual Child Safety Center and the Virtual Women Police Station. Sarah Ahmad also toured the different sections of PSCA and the Virtual Child Safety Center.
Speaking on the occasion, she praised the establishment of the Virtual Child Safety Center by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, calling it a commendable initiative for child protection. She announced that amendments will be made to the Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children (PDNC) Act to further strengthen online child safety mechanisms.
The Chairperson revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Child Protection Bureau and PSCA to enhance coordination and collaboration. She further announced plans to establish a centralized database linking CPB and the Virtual Child Safety Center to improve tracing of missing children.
Sarah Ahmad said children who are victims of abuse and exploitation, and referred by PSCA, will be provided online psychological counseling by qualified child psychologists. She highlighted that, through the joint efforts of CPB and the Virtual Child Safety Center, thousands of missing and runaway children have been successfully reunited with their families.
She added that information from child-specific calls received at the Virtual Child Safety Center will be shared with CPB, and an integrated system will be developed connecting the Child Helpline 1121 with Police Emergency Helpline 15 to ensure a swift and effective response.
The Chairperson emphasized that due to these coordinated initiatives, incidents of child harassment and exploitation have significantly decreased, and she pledged that these efforts will be further strengthened in the future.
