LAHORE — The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Lahore has reported an overall effective and satisfactory performance for the financial year 2024–25, achieving major targets in revenue recovery, water quality, and service delivery, according to an official press release issued on Thursday.
The agency achieved 100 percent of its billing and revenue recovery targets, reflecting strong financial stability and improved management practices. Physical collection efficiency stood at 83 percent, while financial collection efficiency reached 100 percent, the statement said.
Significant progress was also recorded in water supply and quality standards. More than 99 percent of water samples tested during the year were found compliant with prescribed standards. Chemically substandard samples accounted for 0.412 percent, while 0.448 percent were found biologically substandard.
According to WASA, residents of Lahore received an average of 15 hours of water supply daily during both summer and winter seasons. Water supply-related complaints remained low at 1.89 percent, with most resolved within 24 hours. Sewerage-related complaints stood at 5 percent, while revenue-related complaints were limited to 0.21 percent.
The press release noted that WASA’s staffing levels include 5.51 water supply staff per thousand connections and 3.86 sewerage staff per thousand connections. Following the completion of Lahore Development Program (LDP) Phase I, the city’s water coverage area expanded from 248 square kilometers to 328 square kilometers. Work on LDP Phase II is currently underway and progressing rapidly.
The performance report was issued on the directions of Secretary Housing Punjab, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, after Managing Director WASA Ghufran Ahmed submitted a detailed review of the agency’s annual performance.
Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said that, under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government is ensuring the provision of safe and clean drinking water to citizens as a top priority. He added that extensive rehabilitation and expansion of Lahore’s sewerage system have significantly reduced incidents of urban flooding over the past year.
He further stated that the completion of LDP Phase II next year is expected to bring further improvements in the city’s civic infrastructure and public services.
