LAHORE — At least 10 people were killed and 1,254 injured in 1,101 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab over the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
Rescue teams responded to incidents in all 37 districts of the province. Of the injured, 490 people with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 764 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue Medical Teams, helping to reduce pressure on healthcare facilities.
ESD data showed that motorcycles were involved in 72 percent of the reported crashes, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, helmet use and lane discipline to curb the rising number of accidents.
The analysis revealed that 730 drivers, 46 underage drivers, 120 pedestrians and 414 passengers were among those affected. Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents, with 239 crashes impacting 282 people, followed by Multan with 69 crashes and 83 victims, and Faisalabad with 55 crashes and 60 victims.
In total, 1,264 victims were involved in the crashes, including 1,040 men and 224 women. Age-wise, 169 victims were under 18, 749 were between 18 and 40 years, and 346 were above 40 years of age.
The breakdown of vehicles involved showed 1,097 motorcycles, 77 auto-rickshaws, 127 cars, 40 vans, 15 passenger buses, 35 trucks, and 131 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Authorities reiterated the need for improved road safety measures, public awareness and strict action against traffic violations to prevent further loss of life on Punjab’s roads.
