LAHORE — Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has announced plans to establish Carewell Police Welfare Hospitals in all major cities of Punjab, as part of a broader initiative to expand modern healthcare and medical treatment facilities for the police force in 2026.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held at the Central Police Office, chaired by the IG Punjab, where matters relating to the health and medical welfare of police personnel were reviewed in detail.
Dr. Usman Anwar said the Punjab Police would significantly enhance the availability of quality, modern medical services for officers and staff, directing that state-of-the-art medical institutions be developed on the pattern of the Carewell Police Welfare Hospital Gujranwala. He emphasized that to ensure maximum outreach, Police Welfare Hospitals should be established in densely populated areas.
The IG clarified that free medical treatment would be provided at these hospitals to police employees and their families. He described the Carewell Police Welfare Hospital in Gujranwala—established under the supervision of former City Police Officer Rana Muhammad Ayaz Saleem—as an “excellent and commendable initiative” equipped with modern laboratories and advanced medical facilities.
Calling it a model for other districts, Dr. Usman Anwar said the Gujranwala facility demonstrates best practices in police health welfare and should be replicated across the province.
Briefing the meeting, RPO Sahiwal Ayaz Saleem said the Carewell Police Welfare Hospital Gujranwala currently provides free, modern medical services to police personnel and their families across 12 departments. The hospital employs renowned consultants and offers diagnostic and treatment services using the latest medical equipment. He added that members of the general public are also being treated at affordable rates.
According to the briefing, the hospital provides services in General Surgery, Gynecology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Dental, Orthopedics, General Medicine, ENT, Physiotherapy, Psychology and Radiology.
The meeting was attended by DIG Welfare & Finance Zeeshan Asghar, AIG Development Dr. Muhammad Rizwan, and AIG Logistics Abdullah Lak, while all Regional Police Officers (RPOs) participated via video link.
