LAHORE — The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore organized its 22nd Annual Sports Day at the City Campus Sports Ground, showcasing vibrant participation from students across all campuses. The event was inaugurated in the morning by Prof. Dr. Saleem Chaudhary, former Chairman of the UVAS Sports Board, along with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (D.L.A.I, T.I) and Chairman Sports Board Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ijaz.
The prize distribution ceremony in the evening was attended by Mr. Tariq Mahmood Awan, Secretary of the Universities Governor House Lahore, as the chief guest, and Mr. Imtiaz Warraich, Member Planning & Development, as guest of honor.
Students from City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, CVAS Jhang, and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Narowal actively participated in a wide range of sports competitions that continued throughout the day.
Addressing the inauguration, Prof. Dr. Saleem Chaudhary lauded the students’ enthusiasm and acknowledged the UVAS leadership for organizing a mega event in a befitting manner. He highlighted UVAS’s focus on promoting extracurricular activities, particularly sports, alongside academic development.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus said the Sports Day marked a grand start to 2026, emphasizing that UVAS students have consistently brought recognition to the university at national and international competitions. He noted that UVAS ranks among the top ten universities in Pakistan according to the Higher Education Sports Ranking, and highlighted the importance of engaging youth in healthy, drug-free activities.
The event featured a variety of competitions including 100m, 200m, 800m races, javelin throw, discus throw, shot-put, relay races, tug-of-war, long jump, triple jump, three-legged race, martial arts and gymnastics displays.
Outstanding athletes of the event included Mr. Ali Haral (DVM) and Ms. Zoha Habib (Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences) in the male and female categories.
The general trophies for team competitions were awarded as follows:
City Campus Lahore: DVM 3rd Year Male (82 points), Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Female (88 points)
Ravi Campus Pattoki: DVM 4th Year Male (104 points), DVM 4th Year Female (58 points)
CVAS Jhang: DVM 7th Semester Male Team
CVAS Narowal: DVM 3rd Semester Female Team
At the conclusion of the day, VC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus along with other dignitaries distributed trophies, medals, and shields to the winners. Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal highlighted the achievements of UVAS athletes in 2024-25 across volleyball, table tennis, handball, kabaddi, badminton, karate, wushu, rugby, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, noting UVAS’s standing among the top ten universities in Pakistan for sports, and second among public sector universities.
The 22nd Annual Sports Day reflected UVAS’s commitment to holistic student development, combining athletic excellence with academic achievement, and setting a strong example in promoting healthy, competitive sports culture.
