WASHINGTON/CARACAS — Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday claimed that U.S. forces carried out a series of strikes in Venezuela and detained President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, transferring them خارج the country.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said an operation targeting Venezuela’s leadership had been conducted in coordination with law enforcement agencies. He did not provide evidence to support the claim and said further details would be shared at a press conference later in the day.
There was no immediate confirmation from the U.S. government, Venezuelan authorities, or independent sources regarding the alleged detention or any U.S. military action.
International reaction was swift. Colombia and Cuba condemned what they described as U.S. attacks on Venezuela and called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council. Cuba’s president urged the international community to respond immediately to what he termed “criminal aggression.”
Russia also denounced the reported action, calling any attack on Venezuela a violation of international law.
The situation remains fluid, with major questions unanswered about the accuracy of the claims and the scope of any operation.
