Elon Musk–owned satellite internet company Starlink has announced it will provide free internet services for a limited period in Venezuela, according to international media reports.
The announcement comes at a time when Venezuela is facing heightened political tensions, military operations, and widespread internet disruptions, with authorities reportedly restricting access to online platforms and telecommunications in several parts of the country.
Starlink’s satellite-based service is expected to offer an alternative means of connectivity in areas affected by shutdowns, enabling communication, access to information, and emergency coordination during the crisis.
The Venezuelan government has not yet issued an official response to the announcement. Analysts say the move could have significant political and humanitarian implications, as satellite internet services have increasingly been used in conflict zones to bypass state-controlled networks and maintain digital access.
Starlink has previously deployed similar emergency connectivity measures in regions experiencing conflict or natural disasters
