LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced strict measures against clerics found delivering hate speeches, including a complete ban on government perks and honoraria, officials said on Monday.
Under the new policy, all allowances and privileges provided to individuals spreading sectarian or inflammatory messages will be suspended. The decision follows a review of recommendations from the provincial Home Department.
Punjab Chief Minister approved the policy, which also cleared 66,000 clerics and mosque imams who were found not involved in promoting hate or divisive rhetoric. The move aims to curb extremist narratives while maintaining support for responsible religious leaders.
Officials stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to promote social harmony and ensure that public resources are not used to support activities that threaten peace and stability in the province.
