The Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology (NSIC) Sargodha is set to provide world-class healthcare facilities to cardiac patients, Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said on Monday.
He made the remarks while chairing the seventh meeting of the Board of Governors of NSIC Sargodha, held at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education. The meeting was co-chaired by Advisor to Health Punjab and Chairman of the Board, Major General (retd) Dr Azhar Mahmood Kiani.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood Khan, Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Hafiz Muhammad Waseem, Member Health P&D Shafaat Ali, Principal Sargodha Medical College Professor Waris Farooqa, and representatives from the Law Department. Several members, including Dr Shujaat Ali and Parveen Agha, participated via video link.
An 11-point agenda was presented and approved during the meeting. The board endorsed the minutes of its sixth meeting and reviewed progress on the implementation of earlier decisions. The proposed budget estimates for the period from January to June 2026 were approved, along with decisions taken by the Procurement Committee and the Finance and Audit Committee.
The board also decided to advertise the second phase of human resource recruitment and approved the notification of HR regulations in the official gazette.
Addressing the meeting, Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said the institute would play a key role in providing advanced and quality cardiac care to the people of Sargodha and surrounding regions. He said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was committed to ensuring the best possible treatment facilities for heart patients across the province.
Advisor to Health Punjab and Chairman of the Board, Major General (retd) Dr Azhar Mahmood Kiani, said new facilities would be introduced at the institute to further improve patient care. He added that all board members were actively contributing to the institution’s development and that NSIC Sargodha was being run on a transparent and modern healthcare model.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood Khan stressed the need for immediate implementation of all decisions approved by the Board of Governors to ensure timely delivery of improved health services.
