Construction work on the 93-kilometre-long Multan–Vehari dual carriageway is progressing at a fast pace under the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister, officials said on Monday.
A review meeting to assess progress on the project was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Communication and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth, where senior officers of the C&W Department presented a detailed briefing.
The meeting was informed that construction of 80 kilometres on one side and 20 kilometres on the other side of the carriageway has been completed so far, bringing overall progress to 50 per cent.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth described the Multan–Vehari dual carriageway as a major development initiative and a significant gift for the people of South Punjab. He said the Rs26 billion project was being executed round the clock to ensure timely completion.
The minister said the project would directly benefit Multan, Khanewal, Vehari and adjoining districts by improving travel facilities, boosting economic activity and reducing transport costs as well as fuel consumption.
He added that construction work was being carried out in accordance with approved standards and that the dual carriageway would be opened to the public by June 2026.
