LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Thursday awarded IGP (Gallantry) Bravery Medals to 21 police officers and personnel in recognition of their exceptional courage and valor displayed during operations against terrorists, dangerous criminals and proclaimed offenders.
Addressing the award ceremony, Dr Usman Anwar said the Punjab Police fully acknowledges the bravery, dedication and sacrifices of officers and personnel who risk their lives in the line of duty. He said those standing fearlessly against heavy gunfire at inter-provincial check posts, in riverine (katcha) areas and other sensitive locations represent the true strength of the Punjab Police.
The IG Punjab said that Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officers and personnel are continuously foiling the nefarious designs of terrorists linked to Fitna-al-Kharij and Fitna-al-Hindustan, and are playing a vital role in enforcing the writ of the state.
He added that the names of these brave officers are being inscribed on the specially established “Brave Hearts” wall at the Central Police Office, so that future generations remain aware of their sacrifices.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the recipients of the Gallantry Medals include eight personnel from District Rajanpur, three from CTD Lahore, two from CTD Rawalpindi and one from CTD Multan. In addition, two each from Lahore, Gujranwala and Dera Ghazi Khan, and one from Okara were also among the awardees.
From the Executive Police, DSP Basharat Nabi, Inspector Muhammad Ali Butt, Inspector Muhammad Aamir Shaheen and Inspector Jafar Habib were awarded Gallantry Medals. From the District Police, Sub-Inspector Khalid Nawaz Waria, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Younas and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ishaq received the awards. Executive Police Sub-Inspector Shahid Hussain, Sub-Inspector Abrar Ahmad and Sub-Inspector Zaheer-ud-Din were also honoured.
Similarly, from the District Police, Head Constable Khurram Shahzad, Head Constable Muhammad Sharif, and Constables Ilahi Bakhsh, Sajjad Ali and Khursheed Ahmad were awarded Gallantry Medals.
The award-winning officers and personnel expressed their gratitude to IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar for the prestigious recognition and encouragement.
The ceremony was attended by Additional IG Punjab Imran Arshad, DIG Headquarters Dr Muhammad Abid Khan, AIG Discipline Rana Tahir Rehman and other senior police officers.
