COPENHAGEN: Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that the NATO alliance could collapse if the United States attempted to take control of Greenland.
Frederiksen’s comments came after former U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the U.S. might seek to acquire the semiautonomous Danish territory, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and covered under NATO’s collective defense commitments.
She emphasized that any unilateral move against Greenland would violate international agreements and could undermine the credibility and cohesion of the NATO alliance, raising serious security and diplomatic concerns in Europe and the Arctic region.
