Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that financial assistance under the Ramadan Relief Package be distributed through digital wallets this year as well, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency and efficient service delivery.
The directive was issued during a review meeting on the Ramadan Package chaired by the Prime Minister, where he also sought recommendations to further improve the initiative.
The Prime Minister noted that in the past, corruption at utility stores had deprived deserving beneficiaries of their rightful support. He said the government introduced a transparent mechanism last year to ensure the provision of essential food items at subsidised rates.
He recalled that during the previous Ramadan, Rs20 billion was distributed among four million families at the rate of Rs5,000 per family through digital wallets, ensuring direct and corruption-free assistance.
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also approved a national policy framework aimed at reforms in the gemstones and precious stones sector, underscoring the government’s focus on structural reforms across key economic sectors.
