Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed that providing Pakistani youth with education and training in the information technology sector in line with international standards remains one of the government’s top priorities.
The Prime Minister expressed these views during a meeting with the parents of renowned IT prodigy Arfa Karim Randhawa—Samina Amjad and Amjad Karim Randhawa—along with Tabinda Islam, Chief Executive of the Arfa Karim Foundation.
Paying tribute to the late Arfa Karim, the Prime Minister praised her exceptional contributions to the IT sector at a very young age and for bringing international recognition to Pakistan. He noted that in recognition of her lasting services to the IT field, the IT Tower in Lahore has been named after her and is now known as the Arfa Karim Tower.
The Prime Minister said the government is working tirelessly to transform Pakistan into a regional hub for information technology. He added that special emphasis is being placed on IT education, skills development, and the promotion of entrepreneurship among youth.
He further stated that, as in previous years, the federal government is continuing its laptop distribution program this year as well, rewarding high-performing male and female students to encourage digital learning and innovation.
Describing the establishment of the Arfa Karim Foundation as a commendable initiative for the promotion of IT, the Prime Minister assured that the government would extend all possible support at the official level to strengthen its efforts.
Arfa Karim’s parents appreciated the government’s initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif aimed at the development and growth of Pakistan’s IT sector.
