Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public warning to mobile phone users against fake calls and messages, particularly those originating from suspicious UAN numbers. The advisory was shared through the authority’s official social media platforms.
According to the PTA, scammers are impersonating the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and various banks in an attempt to steal users’ personal and financial information.
The authority clarified that no government institution ever asks for sensitive information such as One-Time Passwords (OTP), PIN codes, CNIC details, or biometric data through phone calls or text messages.
PTA has advised mobile users to remain vigilant and to verify any such communication only through official channels. Citizens have also been urged to report any suspected fraud attempts to the relevant authorities to help ensure timely action.
