LAHORE: On the 18th anniversary of the GPO Chowk tragedy, special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the police officers who were martyred in the incident. The prayers were led by Vice Chairman Peace Committee for Interfaith Harmony Punjab, Mian Sadaqat Majeed, and were attended by members of the Peace Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Sadaqat Majeed paid rich tribute to the martyrs, saying that the nation salutes those brave officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect the country and its citizens.
He recalled that on this day in 2008, 16 officers and personnel of the Punjab Police embraced martyrdom in a terrorist attack at GPO Chowk. The martyrs included two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and 14 other police officials.
Mian Sadaqat Majeed strongly condemned the act of terrorism, describing it as a brutal and inhumane crime that can never be justified. He said such sacrifices would always be remembered and honoured.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for the eternal peace of the departed souls and for patience and strength for their families.
