Sargodha: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that regardless of whether Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) comes forward in the current political situation, his party will certainly step into the political arena.
Talking to the media after offering condolences over the death of Maulana Javed Naumani upon his arrival in the town of Hujan, Sargodha, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that holding local government elections is a constitutional requirement and the government is bound to conduct them at any time.
Responding to a question regarding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s complaint about not being given protocol in Punjab, the JUI-F chief gave a light-hearted response in Punjabi, saying, “Some city people were harsh, and perhaps we too had a taste for enduring it.”
Commenting on Jamaat-e-Islami’s proposed public referendum, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that no contact had been made with his party and that he was unaware of the philosophy behind the initiative.
He reiterated that in the prevailing circumstances, whether PTI appears on the political front or not, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam will definitely make its presence felt.
Answering another question, Maulana Fazlur Rehman remarked on the alliance between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), saying, “You should ask them how long they can stay together. For now, they are just moving along, stumbling at times.”
Earlier, Maulana Fazlur Rehman also addressed a condolence reference in Hujan and led prayers for the deceased.
