Islamabad: A parliamentary standing committee has approved a proposed bill requiring members of parliament and their family members to declare their assets and liabilities, officials said on Tuesday.
According to the bill, the publication of asset details will be carried out in the public interest, subject to security considerations and with the approval of the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate.
The legislation also includes a provision for the publication of declared assets and liabilities in the official government gazette, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
Officials said the bill seeks to strike a balance between public access to information and the safety and security of lawmakers and their families.
