KARACHI – The death toll from the tragic Gul Plaza incident has reached 29, while 85 people remain missing. According to rescue officials, hope of finding more bodies is diminishing due to the severity of the fire damage.
The Mayor of Karachi stated that 70 percent of the rescue operation at the affected plaza has been completed, and the first and second floors have been cleared. Rescue personnel involved in the operation reported that the devastation caused by the intense fire has made the rescue work extremely difficult.
Rescue officials made the tragic revelation that the remains of victims have turned to ash, making the identification process highly complicated. The extreme temperatures inside the building indicate the severity of the destruction.
Officials said rescue work continues on the remaining floors but conditions are extremely hazardous. Relatives of missing persons are gathered outside the plaza, anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones. The government has ordered an investigation into the incident and announced immediate measures to assist the victims.
