Heavy snowfall has paralyzed normal life in the mountainous regions of the country. Link roads have been closed at several locations, trapping hundreds of tourists, while 2 people have lost their lives in various incidents.
A series of snowstorms continues in the northern mountainous areas of Balochistan. Dozens of vehicles carrying tourists to Ziarat have been stranded on the Quetta-Ziarat Highway. More than 100 tourist vehicles are trapped in and around Chaman.
Traffic has been severely affected at several locations on the N-50 Highway including Kan Mehtarzai, Khanozai, and Muslim Bagh. Passenger and cargo vehicles have been stranded on the inter-provincial highway due to snow and slippery conditions. 27 people have been injured in 9 different accidents on N-50.
The temperature at Khojak Top has dropped to minus 12 degrees Celsius due to severe Siberian winds on the N-25 Chaman-Quetta-Karachi Highway. Several vehicles collided near Sheilabagh due to slippery conditions, resulting in 2 deaths and 7 injuries. Quetta has also received its first snowfall of the winter season.
Heavy snowfall has also occurred in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All upper areas including Mansehra, upper Galiyat, Shangla, Lower Dir, Mohmand, Kalam, Orakzai, Chitral, and Khyber are covered in snow.
Around 100 vehicles have been stranded on the road in various areas of Tirah Valley in Khyber District due to rain and snowfall. 35 people have been shifted to safer locations.
The tourist destination Naran has received 6 inches of snow while Shogran has received 1.5 inches. Tourists have reached Shogran to enjoy the snowfall.
In the upper areas of Astore District in Gilgit-Baltistan, snowfall of two to three feet has occurred. Ground communication with all upper areas has been cut off, leaving people confined to their homes.
Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with the latest weather conditions.
