Trump-Asim Munir Dialogue Expands Beyond Security to Trade and Investment, The Diplomat
Islamabad: Pakistan has re-established itself as an indispensable and trustworthy partner in Washington through strategic acumen, redirecting its relationship with the United States through robust diplomacy.
Pakistan has gained recognition in America by transforming a regional conflict into a global diplomatic advantage. The international journal The Diplomat has also lavished praise on Pakistan’s successful diplomacy.
According to The Diplomat, India, which was considered a US ally, now faces 50 percent American tariffs and has been denied a presidential visit. After India rejected American mediation claims regarding the May 2025 Pakistan-India dispute, relations have entered a deeply frozen state.
According to The Diplomat, Pakistan turned this very crisis into a diplomatic opportunity and warmly appreciated President Trump’s mediating role. Following the four-day Pakistan-India war, President Trump invited the Pakistani Army Chief to the White House.
The international journal reports that in September 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir visited the White House, where conversations between Trump and Munir expanded beyond security to encompass trade and investment. After India declared mediation claims an insult to sovereignty, it received neither the QUAD Summit, nor a Trump visit, nor trade relief.
According to The Diplomat, Pakistan-US counterterrorism cooperation was restored, breathing new life into an old pillar of relations. In July 2025, Pakistan and the US concluded a significant trade agreement reducing tariffs, which includes long-term American corporate investment in Pakistan’s resources.
The international journal reports that President Trump announced that America and Pakistan would jointly develop major oil reserves. In December 2025, Pakistan secured American approval for F-16 aircraft upgrades, with the total F-16 upgrade package valued at $680 million. In January 2026, Pakistan also emphasized renewing diplomatic relations with China.
According to The Diplomat, the US added the Baloch Liberation Army and Majeed Brigade to its list of terrorist organizations. After failing to reach a trade agreement with India, America imposed 50 percent tariffs on India. Trump and his close advisers harbor intense displeasure with the Indian government.
