Brussels/Berlin/Auschwitz — International Holocaust Remembrance Day is being observed across the world to honor the victims of the Holocaust and to reaffirm the global commitment to combating hatred, racism, and genocide.
On this occasion, Tatiana Bucci, a survivor of the notorious Auschwitz death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland, addressed the European Parliament. In her speech, she recalled the horrors of the Holocaust and urged world leaders and societies to stand united against intolerance and discrimination.
Commemorative ceremonies are also taking place in Berlin and at the Auschwitz memorial site in Poland. Political leaders, diplomats, Holocaust survivors, and members of civil society are participating in the events to pay tribute to the millions who lost their lives.
Nearly 81 years have passed since the liberation of Auschwitz, yet global leaders emphasize that remembering the Holocaust remains crucial to ensuring that such atrocities are never repeated.
Further events and statements are expected throughout the day.
