LAHORE: On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, practical measures are being taken to accelerate social welfare initiatives across the province. In this regard, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal, Sohail Shaukat Butt, to review the progress of ongoing and proposed welfare projects.
The meeting was attended by Director General Social Welfare Tariq Qureshi and Divisional Directors from across Punjab. A comprehensive review was conducted of development and welfare projects in major divisions, including Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Discussions focused on the budgets of welfare institutions, departmental matters, and future planning, while several proposals aimed at further strengthening public welfare services were considered. The meeting approved the establishment of a Social Welfare Complex in District Nankana Sahib. Proposals regarding the construction of Deputy Directors’ offices in various districts, the establishment of an Industrial Home building in Pakpattan, and a Children Home in Gujranwala were also reviewed.
Additionally, detailed deliberations were held on improving help desks at Medical Social Services Units in hospitals. Consultations were also carried out on the establishment of new welfare institutions and additional offices of the Social Welfare Department. Officers from the Directorate and divisional offices presented their recommendations, upon which the Provincial Minister issued necessary instructions and stressed the importance of timely completion of all development projects.
Addressing the meeting, Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt stated that the Social Welfare Department is fully committed to promoting public welfare in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He emphasized that ensuring the comfort, convenience, and improved care of residents of welfare institutions remains the government’s top priority, alongside the launch of new welfare schemes and projects.
He further reaffirmed that bringing positive and lasting change to the lives of vulnerable and deserving segments of society through effective social welfare initiatives is a firm commitment of the Punjab Government, and that all available resources are being mobilized to achieve this objective.
