Islamabad – The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has revealed a major theft involving gas pipelines worth millions of rupees, leading to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) filing charges against nine individuals in court.
According to SNGPL Managing Director, the FIA has submitted a challan against the accused persons, and none of them have been granted bail so far. “The FIA has filed charges against 9 individuals in court, and till now, none have been released on bail,” the MD SNGPL stated while briefing authorities on the investigation’s progress.
The theft involved sophisticated operations where criminal networks allegedly stole significant lengths of gas transmission pipelines, causing substantial financial losses to the state-owned gas utility. The stolen infrastructure was reportedly sold in the black market, disrupting gas supply to various areas and compromising the integrity of the distribution network.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has demanded a comprehensive report from the FIA within two weeks. The parliamentary oversight body has expressed concern over the security lapses that allowed such large-scale theft of critical energy infrastructure.
The PAC has directed the FIA to provide complete details of the investigation, including the recovery of stolen materials, identification of all individuals involved in the racket, and measures being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
Sources indicate that the theft ring operated over an extended period, with preliminary investigations suggesting involvement of both insiders and external criminal elements. The stolen pipelines are estimated to be worth crores of rupees, representing a significant loss to national assets.
SNGPL has assured authorities that it is cooperating fully with the FIA investigation and implementing enhanced security measures to protect its infrastructure across the network.
