LAHORE: Punjab Police is taking strong action across the province against the use of metallic strings and illegal kite flying, enforcing strict compliance with the Anti-Kite Flying Act. Operations are underway in multiple districts, including Lahore, to prevent violations and ensure public safety during Basant.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, stated that during the three-day Basant in Lahore, police will strictly monitor compliance with government-issued codes of conduct and SOPs. Only registered kite sellers will be allowed to sell approved kites and string, while strict legal action will be taken against violators.
Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that aerial firing, display of weapons, obscene or immoral behavior will not be tolerated, and immediate action will be taken against any infringement. A zero-tolerance policy is enforced across Punjab for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act, while Basant in Lahore has been permitted only on specific days under strict conditions.
According to Punjab Police, 3,195 cases were registered across the province during the first month of the year for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act. Authorities also recovered 252,701 kites and 5,503 string reels, with the accused taken into custody.
In Lahore alone, 1,391 cases were registered, resulting in the recovery of 87,373 kites and 1,529 string reels, along with arrests of the violators.
